Green Cross Code
There wont be another death on the road,
If you remember the Green Cross Code,
Stop at a safe place to cross,
Look right and left or your life could be lost.
Listen for any cars,
Dont think of Milky Way bars,
When you are sure the road is clear,
Continue to look left and right to make sure no cars
are near.
Walk quickly but please do not run,
To loose your life would not be fun,
Remember to keep looking around,
Sometimes some cars do not make a sound.
Always Remember the Green Cross Code,
Anytime you have to cross the road,
Stop, look, Listen and find a safe place to cross,
The last thing we need is more lives lost.

| Public Speaking
Final 2007 |
Our 2007 Public Speaking Finals were held on the 10th
December at Stranmillis College with some 150 family
members, friends and teachers attending the proceedings
and supporting the children. We were entertained to
an excellent evening of well researched, well prepared
and well presented speeches, which made for a very competitive
event.
11 Committees were well represented by over 40 competitors
travelling long distances to take part. The topics provided
for this years event were as follows:
" Why Drink Driving is still a problem?
" Is the Road Safety "Shock" advertising
getting through?
" Road Crashes are never an accident!
" How do we encourage safe cycling?
" 17 year olds are too young to drive!
" All we need is care and courtesy on our roads
to reduce crashes!
" Enforcement is the most important tool for Road
Safety!
" Road Safety, a compulsory subject to be taught
at school?
" Use of mobile phones by drivers - still a problem?
" Northern Ireland should introduce 'metric' speed
limit/direction signs!
Our thanks to the judges who had to work hard to
decide the winners from a very competitive event.

| Cycling
Proficiency 2007 - 23rd June |
Our
Cycling Proficiency Championships took place on Saturday
23rd June at Cambridge House Grammar School, Ballymena.
We were lucky with the weather and despite one very
heavy shower we were able to hold the competition without
the competitors and marshals getting soaked. The competition
consisted of three main tests, Highway Code, Road Route
and Skilful Cycling tests. Although overall numbers
were down on previous years, the competition proved
to be a great success with competitors displaying a
high level of knowledge and skill.
UTV were also on hand to film the activities as part
of ''You Care'' Community Service Announcement appeal
for volunteers for local RSC committees. This will be
screened in the next few weeks and you will all have
the opportunity to see our latest ''TV stars''.
Our sincere thanks to all those who helped run the event.
Special mentions go to the Cyclists Touring Club, local
PSNI. Again the venue was excellent and Cambridge House
will be a very hard venue to replace.
The top prizes on the day were two new bicycles, one
for Best Boy and the other for Best Girl. Mr Billy McClure
of Centro very generously supplied these.
Pictured are the winning team on the day despite
only having 3 team members from Antrim Committee Greystone
PS with President Mr Reggie Semple

| Primary
School Quiz Final 2007 |
|
A
packed room at the Ballymena Showgrounds was again
the venue for the final of the Road Safety Council
Primary School quiz on Monday 26th March 2007.
Mr Connor Phillips from Cool FM gave his services
on the night to act as quizmaster. His skills as a
teacher came into play as he took control throughout
the night.
The format of the competition remained as in previous
years, with all teams competing to the very end of
seven rounds of questions and three other rounds with
a road safety word search, road signs and a film round.
It was apparent that all the teams participating enjoyed
an informative evening and this was supported by the
feedback received. The quiz presented an interesting
range of questions with an obviously strong Road Safety
bias. From the conversations on the evening, family
members and teachers also increased their Road safety
knowledge after the quiz.
Thanks again to the very popular Mr Connor Phillips
who kept the whole event running smoothly in his usual
''COOL TEAM'' professional way and had a bit of fun
at the same time.
Congratulations to the finalists and all teams taking
part in this year's event.
The usual hard working team of volunteers ensured
the smooth running of the event, thank you.
The winning team were representing our Coleraine
Committee and from St Columba's Primary School in
Kilrea. They were Damian McGrath, Paul McGrath, Karla
O'Boyle and Dyllon McAuley.
The runners up were representing our Lisburn Committee
and from Ballycarrickmaddy Primary School. They were
Ben Houston, Christopher Adams, Lindsey Given and
Alison Dark.
The third place were representing our Newtownabbey
Committee and from Whitehouse Primary School. They
were Jill McManus, Stephanie Smith, Leah Baillie and
Gareth Hughes.
Our thanks also to the Ballymena Showgrounds staff
for their help and assistance on the night.

eight gruelling rounds of questions. It was apparent
that all enjoyed an informative evening and this was
supported by the feedback received. The quiz presented
an interesting range of questions with an obviously
strong Road Safety bias.
Once again, and back by popular demand, Mr Ken Barr
kept the whole event running smoothly and the "craic"
was great. Our thanks to Ken for his time and professionalism.
Congratulations to the finalists and all teams taking
part in this year's event.
The usual hard working team of volunteers ensured
the smooth running of the event, thank you.
The winning team were representing our Coleraine
