Child Car Seat Awareness Seen by Tens of Thousands at Forestside Shopping Centre

Road Safety Child Car Seat Fitting Awareness Campaign
17th April: Forestside Shopping Centre, Galwally.

Tens of thousands of shoppers were given the opportunity to see how to correctly fit a child car seat in the Forestside Shopping Centre today.

The purpose of the event was to provide the public with advice on the fitting and usage of safety seats. Recent surveys have indicated that up to 80% of child safety seats had faults in their fitting.

The event was run thanks to the help of the Forestside Shopping Centre Management, the Department of the Environment Road Safety Education Team, Halfords and volunteers and staff of the Road Safety Council of Northern Ireland.

A family vehicle in the centre with safety seats supplied by Halfords was available with trained staff from Halfords providing fitting and selection advice. DoE Road Safety offered appropriate advice and literature on this and other road safety issues.

Full House at the Annual Road Safety Quiz hosted by Frank Mitchell

Road Safety Quiz 2004Wednesday 24th March saw a full turn out from committees across the province as 21 teams went head to head at the annual Road Safety Quiz for 2004 in the Europa Hotel, Belfast.

After six rounds of general knowledge and road safety questions it was a close finish that brought past winners Foyle & District up against Lisburn City.

The Grand Final saw another very close competition with speed of buzzers deciding the outcome of Lisburn taking the title, just pipping Foyle and District.

Pictured above are the winners from Lisburn (back row) and a close second, Foyle & District with Frank Mitchell who chaired on the evening.
